The Carl Benz Award recognizes excellence in the presentation of automotive history as an article in a periodical. Articles in commercial, club and academic periodicals can be nominated. An author or publisher is welcome to nominate his or her own article(s) in their respective periodical.
The article must have appeared in a publication with an on-sale date within calendar year 2023. Multi-part articles with installments appearing with both 2022 and 2023 on-sale dates are also eligible. Multi-part articles with installments appearing with both 2023 and 2024 on-sale dates must wait until 2025 for nomination, but all installments would be eligible at that time. The Benz Award Panel may also, if it deems it warranted, select an additional article for secondary recognition with an Award of Distinction.
Prior to 1983, the article awards were a subcategory of the Cugnot Award.
Nominations should be emailed to sahawards@gmail.comby April 15, 2024. Please include the name of the publication, the volume/date in which the article appeared, and the page numbers. Upon notice that the nomination is accepted, digital copies of the article(s) should be forwarded to the Benz Award Panel Chair Don Keefe.
