SUMMARY:WSAH Spring Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The WSAH Spring Meeting was held on Saturday\, April 29\, 2023 at 2:15 PM at the Wisconsin Automotive Museum in Hartford\, WI. \nFifteen members and two guests were in attendance. The Treasurer presented an annual budget\, which was discussed in detail. Possible revisions to the WSAH website were explored\, with the aim of attracting more outside interest. \nVarious changes to the upcoming Iola Car Show were reviewed\, which would impact the Society’s work at the event. George Tesar made an informative presentation on the history of Tatra\, a Czech automobile and truck manufacturer.

DESCRIPTION:Some 20 Leland Chapter members gathered virtually at 10:00 AM on Tuesday\, December 22nd. \nBrian Baker introduced Nick Gargaro\, a recent graduate of Wooster College in Ohio\, as a new staff member of the AHF.  Nick will be handling alumni rerlations and administering the AHF “Bio Project” to enhance and expand the Hall’s collection of inductee biographical tributes. Nick also just joined the SAH. \nTerry Boyce gave a detailed report on his attendance at the recent MotorCities National Heritage Center Annual Meeting. Brian Baker then presented his PowerPoint entitled “The Reaview Mirror\,” a review of his favorite competition car designs.

DESCRIPTION:The Third European Conference for Automotive History will be held at MAUTO\, Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile\, in Turin from 14 to 16 October 2022. The conference is organised jointly by Thomas Ulrich of the AHG in Germany and Anders Ditlev Clausager of the SAHB in the UK. The event is supported by the SAHB and the Culture and Youth Commission of FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens). Seventeen 30-minute English language presentations are tenatively scheduled. \nIf you wish to attend\, please complete the Booking Form and mail or email it to Thomas Ulrich (his postal and email addresses are in the Booking Form). Thomas will send you details of the bank account to use for payment. (5/28/22) \n\nThe third European Conference for Automotive History was held at MAuto\, Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile\, in Turin. The conference was organized jointly by Thomas Ulrich of the AHG in Germany and Anders Ditlev Clausager of the SAHB in the UK\, with sponsorship from FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens). Eighteen half-hour English language presentations were made to ninety attendees from twenty countries. One of the premier European automobile museums proved to be an excellent conference venue. Conference participants toured the archives and preservation facilities at MAuto and visited the Stellantis Heritage Hub in the Mirafiori factory and the Fiat Centro Storico downtown in an original F.I.A.T. building. SUMMARY:2022 Eastern Division AACA National Fall Meet in Hershey\, PA
DESCRIPTION:We resumed our customary big-tent presence on the flea market Orange Field this year and were happy to see Hershey Week resemble something close to “normal.” Tuesday was the obligatory foul weather day this year\, but by Thursday and Friday the sun was shining and the temps were comfortable. For the first time\, our Annual General Meeting took place at the tent Wednesday afternoon; the session went well and after the required reports a lively discussion ensued among the dozen attendees about the future of the SAH. The Fall Board Meeting was held at the Hershey Country Club Wednesday evening\, the Annual Book Signing took place Thursday afternoon at the tent with 16 authors in attendance\, and the Annual Awards Banquet was held Thursday evening at the Hershey Country Club. SUMMARY:Cars Across the Pacific: Transnational Histories of the Automotive Industry
DESCRIPTION:Plans are underway with our colleagues at the Automotive Historians Australia to convene a joint one-day hybrid symposium on 9/18/22 in North America and 9/19/22 in Australia. The event will tentatively consist of ten presentations over five hours\, a one hour break\, and then three presentations and a round-table discussion over two hours. This would all tentatively start in North America at 5:00 PM EST on Sunday\, 9/18/22\, and conclude around 1:00 AM EST. Details and Call for Papers to follow.  (3/23/22) \n\nThe Automotive Historians Australia (AHA) and the SAH have co-convened a one-day online symposium for their members on September 18\, 2022 in North America and March September 19\, 2022 in Australia. \nFifteen to twenty minute presentations are being sought that address the shared transnational histories of the automotive industry\, exploring ways in which the Australian and American auto industries shared expertise\, skills\, staff\, design and studio practices\, engineering\, business and management structures\, advertising\, parts and components\, and trade practices. Ten presentations are planned for the main session\, and then three presentations and a round-table discussion for the second session. \nStart time is scheduled for 5:00 PM EST on Sunday\, September 18\, 2022 in North America\, concluding around 1:00 AM EST on Monday\, September 19\, for all thirteen sessions and the round-table. DESCRIPTION:The WSAH Autumn Meeting was called to order by Chapter President Ken Nimocks at 2:00 PM on Saturday\, October 30\, 2021\, at the Wisconsin Automotive Museum in Hartford\, WI. The two hour meeting covered member recruitment\, increasing public awareness of the WSAH\, the formation of committees to tackle specific projects\, and future meeting sites. Ken Nimocks reviewed the 2021 Iola Car Show and Don Gullikson provided a preview of the planning for the 2022 show\, including maps of the grounds. The attendees approved donating $1\,000 to the Wisconsin Automotive Museum.

SUMMARY:Eastern Division AACA Fall Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The SAH Book Signing at our Orange Field tent and our Annual Banquet at the Hershey Country Club scheduled for October 6-8 were regretfully cancelled due to pandemic concerns. These decisions were made with the health and safety of all attendees foremost in mind\, while recognizing our long term relationships with the AACA\, the Hershey Region of the AACA\, the Hershey Country Club and the “Hershey Week” experience in general. Our Orange Field presence for 2021 was reduced to one table under a small pagoda tent. \nWe look forward to resuming our customary big-tent presence at Hershey in October\, 2022. See you then !

SUMMARY:WSAH Summer Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Even with the cancellation of the Iola Car Show due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, the Chapter was still able to hold a one hour WSAH Summer Meeting on the Iola show grounds on Saturday\, July 11\, at 2:00 PM\, after the 1\,000+ car Rally for Iola concluded. Six members were in attendance at Iola\, and another three members were able to join via a conference call service. Also in attendance was Denise Clumpner\, of the Iola Car Show\, to discuss show planning for 2021.

SUMMARY:Fifth Michael R. Argetsinger Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The Fifth Michael R. Argetsinger Symposium on International Motor Racing History took place on Friday\, November 8th and Saturday\, November 9th\, 2019\, at the Watkins Glen International race track Media Center\, located in the track infield. The Symposium explored the theme of “Writing Motor Sports History.” Some fifty attendees heard a total of fourteen speakers give moderated presentations on a wide variety of motor sports topics. On Saturday afternoon Dr. John Heitmann of the University of Dayton\, and author of “The Automobile and American Life\,” delivered the keynote address. Dr. Heitmann and several of the presenters concluded the conference by participating in a panel discussion on the same topic\, moderated by SAH President Don Capps.

DESCRIPTION:Leland Chapter\, Detroit members visited the Automotive Hall of Fame (AHF) in Dearborn\, MI\, on Sunday\, April 14th\, 2019.  They were joined by students from the College for Creative Studies and students from the Lawrence Technological University\, under the invitation of Leland Chapter President Brian Baker.  AHF Director Sarah Cook welcomed the 60 attendees; discussion focused on the functions of the AHF and outreach to younger generations.
