The Society of Automotive Historians is pleased to welcome the following new members:
Robert Barrett, of Angola, New York, grew up around the collector cars of his late father. He now does his best to keep the collection maintained and operable.
Robert’s main passion is the brass era, and living most of the year in Berlin, Germany, has pushed him deeper into researching the cars he owns. He is currently writing a book on a one-off South Bend automobile with experimental wheels. Robert has known SAH members for many years and has always enjoyed passing the SAH tent at Hershey each fall.

West End, North Carolina resident Bill Huber’s interest in cars dates back to 1960 when his parents bought him a 1958 Ford retractable, which he and his bride took for a 2500-mile honeymoon trip. No luggage space! Since then, Bill has never been without a retractable, moving on to a 1959 Ford and then a 2015 Miata, pictured in the above photo.

The New York architectural career of Brian McMahon, now residing in Stillwater, Minnesota, led to an interest in industrial architecture and old automobile plants, leading into a further interest in how cars were made. Fifty years later, after completing over 40 articles and an award-winning book [The Ford Century in Minnesota], Brian continues to be fascinated by Henry Ford and his achievements. Brian is currently completing a book with the tentative title Assembling Henry Ford. Those interested in further information about Brian and his projects are welcome to visit brianmcmahonhistory.com.
A resident of San Anselmo, California, Alan Spencer’s interest in cars dates back to his early childhood in Portsmouth, England, when as a two-year-old, he was invited to choose a Dinky Toy as reward for good behavior during his first haircut. Since that fateful day, he’s expanded his model car collection to over 800 items.
As a retirement gig, Alan runs a picture car agency called Wheels in Southern California. The agency sources ‘cool’ vehicles for advertising photo shoots, typically for fashion. Requests range from vintage pickups with lots of patina to bona fide classics – he is currently sourcing a 1956 Lancia Aurelia B24 convertible.
For over 30 years, Alan has served as an SCCA class judge, specializing in imported sports cars. He was Chief Judge for the Marin Sonoma Concours, which ran from 2009 to 2013.
Alan believes that as he enjoys learning about the history of cars, especially from a styling perspective, joining the SAH will be a great fit.
