The Carl Benz Award recognizes excellence in the presentation of automotive history as an article or a series of articles in a magazine or periodical published in the previous calendar year.
Articles in commercial, club and academic periodicals can all be nominated. Authors and publishers are welcome to nominate their own articles, or articles appearing in their own publications.
The Benz Award Panel may also select an additional article for secondary recognition with an Award of Distinction.
Requirements
All nominations and enquiries should be sent to sahawards@autohistory.org. Your email will then be forwarded to the Benz committee chair.
Nominations should include the name of the award, the publication being nominated, the name and contact information of the individual making the nomination, and one or two lines outlining the reason for the nomination.
Nominated articles must have appeared in a publication with on-sale dates in the previous calendar year. Articles appearing in multiple parts, or as part of a series extending over two or more, years must have a final installment in the previous calendar year. For example, multi-part articles with on-sale dates in 2021 and 2022 would be eligible for nomination in 2023, and not before. Any and all of the installments would be eligible at that time.
Note that nominees and nominators do not have to be SAH members.
All nominations for the Carl Benz Award must be received by April 15 of this year. Be sure to apply by the deadline.
