On 3 July it will be sixty years since Jack Brabham drove the Repco Brabham BT19 to victory in the French Grand Prix at Reims, becoming the first driver to win a world championship grand prix in a car bearing his own name. It was the first of Brabham’s four straight victories that would take him to the 1966 Formula 1 championship and his team to the constructor’s title.
This video shows the pre-race activity around the starting grid and some of the race. For our Francophone enthusiasts, the commentary is in French. For its time, the film coverage with aerial and trackside cameras is remarkable.

Although the video finishes at about half race distance, I found it compelling, especially the relaxed tension of the pre-race activity on the starting grid, drivers and crews chatting and making final adjustments, an autograph being signed and the drivers’ briefing on the track.
